I think the notes people include in their recipes make them more personal. If I write a note myself about a recipe, it will always be written in purple.

DATE NUT BREAD


DATE NUT BREAD
1 cup dates, finely cut
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup hot water
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups flour

Finely cut the dates (or purchase finely chopped dates). Sprinkle baking soda over the dates evenly.
Pour 1 cup hot water over dates and let stand until cool.
1Combine chopped nuts, brown sugar, egg, butter and flour; mix well.
Turn into a greased and floured loaf pan.
Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for one hour.
